This is a hilarious, ridiculously freaking action satire movie. Shoot ‘Em Up is that movie which makes you chuckle, makes you say ‘What the F**k’ many a times.
The movie was released today here in India. I was seriously thinking if India’s Central Board of Film Certification finds the movie irritating enough to just let go. If they had used the scissor enough, well then there would be not Shoot ‘Em Up!
Lots of the “F” word, guns, and quite a bit of Donna Quintano (Monica Bellucci) including an exposed nipple while trying to feed Oliver (the baby). I’m not sure how much is the movie chopped off before hitting Indian screens. Nonetheless, the remains of what we can watch are funny, stupid and down-right ticklishly cool.
Smith’s (Clive Owen) ever angry face was plastered all over the movie from start to finish and will remind you of Sin City.
The movie starts with Smith waiting at a bus stop and eating ‘carrots’, he even mutters ‘what’s up doc’ later in the movie. A pregnant woman on the verge of delivery runs past him chased down by a man with a gun. Smith follows them to a warehouse, where the gunman tries to kill the woman. Smith starts shooting, kills he man and eventually kills all the other henchmen that follows. The pregnant woman delivers the baby, got killed and Smith take the baby under his care. The leader of the gunmen is Hertz (Paul Giamatti) who plays the ‘pussy with a gun’. Donna Quintano, a prostitute helps Smith and the baby.
This is an awesome easy-go-enjoy-forget movie, no questions asked on the story or plot or whatever it has little in itself. Unless you’re looking some serious action-flick, and is ready to enjoy some BS, this is one. Go for it and enjoy.
